Master Bedroom Progress - One Room Challenge

Monday, May 8, 2017

If you have been following along with us you know that I had planned to do a One Room Challenge with our master bedroom a while back.  I bought a new throw and moved a few things around but I didn't do anything major and was left feeling bored with our room very soon again after.

The before of our bedroom just felt unfinished.  There was no wow factor.  The bed naturally being the focal point of the room felt boring and got lost in the sea of beige around it.  Although I loved the lamps I bought for the nightstands, I felt that they were too small for the size of the table and the wall they were on.  The pictures above our bed faded into the wall because of the color.. it just didn't work.

I knew if I wanted to create a space that we would love for a long time I would have to actually put some effort in and make some drastic changes.  But as I began to look around and really take inventory of what we had, I realized I didn't need to buy anything new - I could shop the items we already had in our home. The solution to creating our new beautiful master bedroom was paint.  I had worked so hard to avoid it because it was a huge undertaking as both the walls and the ceiling would have to be painted.. BUT, in the end the result far outweighed the doom of the job.

We painted the walls Valspar Madison White and the ceiling Valspar Swiss Coffee.  It was the perfect contrast and dramatically brightened the space.  I brought back in some lamps I had in storage and per Shane's request used the original quilt we got when we were first married.

I only wish now I would have painted sooner!  We still have a few things we plan to do to this space including adding crown molding.  I also plan to get a few more simple pieces for the walls and a natural rug to put under the bed to warm up the space and add texture.  I am in love with the simplicity of this space though!  We are so close to having our master retreat.  Stay tuned for the final reveal!
